 VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL

                    July 15 – 17

 Let’s Get Cooking!

VBS is coming to First Presbyterian, Sunday July 15-17 from 6:00-8:30 p.m.  This year’s theme is “Shake It Up Cafe! – Where Kids Carry Out God’s Recipes.”  We will explore the Bible as a cookbook filled with recipes for living out God’s Word.  Discover the lessons that we can learn from Passover, and other festivals in the Bible.  Each night we will provide a delicious meal, amazing stories, games, cooking, and crafts.  All ages are invited and we will have activities for adults, youth and kids.  Please join us!  Also, if you would like to assist as a volunteer, please contact Sarah.  Hope to see you there!

Our Youth Mission Trip

July 8 – 12

Mission@Massanata

Since the summer of 2009, hundreds of youth and adults have been participating in our program called Mission@Massanetta.  Senior high groups work with Rebuilding Together to rehabilitate homes of elderly and disadvantaged persons.  They build ramps, replace bathroom floors, shingle roofs, provide new roofs over leaking mobile homes, and any other projects needed.  What a blessing this has been and continues to be!

Our middle school youth and adults work at the Volunteer Farm at Woodstock to provide produce for several area Food Banks.  They work with mentally challenged adults.  The “missionaries” sort clothing at the Mercy House Thrift Store.  They package goods at Equipping the Saints to be sent to mission stations around the world.  New this summer will be groups going to work with the children at the Roberta Webb Child Care Center.  The director there shared that the 44 children include little ones from Haiti, Turkey, and Vietnam.  A number of children are from Spanish-speaking countries.  Work will include playing with and reading to the children, weeding around the facility, painting entry doors, building a walkway to the playground, and providing Bible story activities.

There are 214 Mission@Massanetta youth and adults scheduled for this summer.  More spots are open if your church should desire a mission experience that has proven to change lives and hearts, not only of those served, but of those serving.

            International Covered Dish Lunch

Sunday, July 15th

Fellowship Hall – Immediately after worship service

Fix your favorite dish from another country and bring it for all to try.  You can find a new recipe on the internet and try it, or fix one you already have (yes, tacos and spaghetti, etc., are from Mexico and Italy).  Course good old southern food is always welcome.  If you do fix a foreign dish, please label with the name of the dish and country of origin.  It would be nice to have a short list of ingredients as we have several folks with food allergies in our membership.

The Alzheimer’s Support Group will meet Thursday, July 19th at 6:30pm in the Faith Formations classroom. The meeting is open to caregivers, family members, neighbors and friends of individuals suffering from Alzheimer’s Disease and related dementias. Someone will be available to sit with the individual who is suffering from dementia during the meeting in a comfortable room in the church if needed. For further information contact Donna.

Older Adult Ministries Award for Outstanding Older Adult – You may place this form in the offering plate or submit to the church office in care of the Congregational Care Committee.  Nominations must be submitted by Sunday, July 22, 2012.

Worship Help Needed:  We need folks to assist with worship activities by signing up to usher, greet, be in the nursery, give a children’s sermon during church, learn to do the sound system and help with that.  Eventually we plan to get a better system in place but for now we are still asking folks to sign up. Thank you for anything you can do to assist in making worship more meaningful to all.

Children’s Church Help Needed:  Please sign up on the monthly chart in the narthex to help out with the children in our church.
